The power of words

The words you say and the way you say them can be so powerful. They can both uplift people and tear them down. When we speak we have to be careful what we say! Now don't be so cautious that you aren't yourself, but make sure you pay attention to others and how their day is going. You never know how much both something good and bad can really affect that person, especially if they're having "one of those days."

An example of the power of words would be something like an advertisement. You could say that your book has over 1000 reviews or you could say your book has 1001 reviews. While both are true statements, which one sounds like you have more reviews? Which one peaks your interest more to look into this book? While this may be a simple example, we have to keep this in mind when we start saying words to others and even when we are trying to promote ourselves or our business.

Lastly, the old saying, "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" is so untrue. Words do hurt. Sometimes we do need to hear something we really don't want to hear, but there is always a way to say it without tearing someone down. For instance, not in front of that persons colleagues.

So, think before you speak. You never know what kind of day someone is having!
