The importance of protein in your diet
Most people focus on the amount of carbs in their diet when they should be more focused on protein.
Why protein though?
After all, everyone for years has talked about how carbs make you fat and how carbs aren't good for you.
So much focus on carbs and the better thing to focus on would be protein!!
Of course we don't want to have an excess of carbs, but what most American's suffer with is a under eating of protein.
Protein is very important to our body and weight loss.
It's not just for muscle. It's for more than that.
In fact your body uses protein to make things like enzymes and hormones.
Your body also uses protein to build and repair muscle tissue that is usually damaged in resistance training.
Protein is also important for your bones, muscles, cartilage, and skin.
It makes you want to think twice about protein now, doesn't it?
Now that you know just how important protein is, how do you consume protein?
Well that's a great question!! The first and best way to consume it would be through whole food sources
I.e. Chicken, beef, pork, fish, etc.
The reason this is the best way is because it's a natural source of protein unlike things such as protein shakes.
If you don't have time because you're on the go you have a couple options.
- Eat your meals cold (not the most fun, but it's been done)
- Take a meal replacement shake
- Eat a meal replacement bar
We've already covered choice 1, but basically it's eating a whole food source cold.
As for choice 2:
The meal replacement shake I take is Level-1
This is a meal replacement bar also referred to as a protein bar. This is the most convenient way to get your protein in between meals. Just like a shake it allows you to stay anabolic, but you don't have to have a shaker bottle, water, and your tub of protein to be able to have it. You just have a bar that's ready to go when you are!!
